The government’s proposed rise in probate fees, scheduled for May 2017, has now been scrapped as a result of the upcoming general election. The fees were due to rise from £155 up to as much as £20,000.

The change of plans has been welcomed by solicitors and bereaved clients alike, however with a strong possibility that fee increases may still be implemented once the new Government is in place, we would recommend that anybody requiring a Grant of Probate seeks advice without delay.
