Will Drafting Service

An alarming number of people in the UK today have not made a will, and this is likely to be reflected locally in the number of people who have not made wills in St Helens. A well drafted will ensures that when you die your possessions will be dealt with in accordance with your wishes. Those who die without making a will die “intestate”. What this can often mean to surviving partners and family members is that:

  • the spouse does not necessarily end up inheriting everything
  • an unmarried partner will not automatically receive anything from the deceased’s estate
  • children can be disinherited

Dying without a will can cause untold pain to the families we leave behind. If you are looking for a law firm to help you and your partner with your wills in St Helens, the team at St Helens Law is always on hand.

Probate

Probate is also known as estate administration. It is the legal process of transferring ownership of the money, property or assets of someone who has died.

If a person makes a will before they die, they will choose and appoint an executor to administer their estate. If they die intestate it is possible that an administrator will be appointed to carry out those duties. In either case, the executor or administrator(s) of the deceased’s estate are charged with the task of ensuring that the assets are transferred to the correct parties as outlined in the will, or in accordance with the intestacy rules.

As one of the best and most experienced firms of probate solicitors in Merseyside, St Helen’s Law’s specialist team can provide advice and assistance on these matters, as soon as any problems or issues arise. For more information on Probate, click here to visit our Probate page.

Lasting Powers of Attorney

A Lasting Power of Attorney enables you to prepare for the future, by nominating people who would be responsible to act on your behalf and make decisions for you, if your health should ever deteriorate to the point where are unable to manage them yourself. Whether due to illness or an accident, an LPA provides the peace of mind that your affairs will still be taken care of, even if you are prevented from dealing with them yourself.

At SHL our expert team can help to prepare a Lasting Power of Attorney, and can also take care of the registration process required to make your LPA legal. Click here to find out more about Lasting Powers of Attorney.
